"When it comes to women’s reproductive rights, both Pete and Joe Coors have (unsuccessfully) run for political office on platforms that would deny women bodily autonomy. In his bid for Senate in 2004, Pete touted his anti-abortion stance. And to prove to voters how passionate he was about limiting women’s rights, he committed to changing the Coors Company health plans so that abortion coverage would be removed. Pete also funneled money into groups like the Independent Women’s Foundation, an organization “so extreme,” that as Salon reported back in 2004, “its leaders opposed the landmark Violence Against Women Act, complaining that such federal protections encourage women to ‘distrust’ men"."
