Donald Trump Became a Republican Superstar by Betting Big on Two Things
"This is a political party that’s been conning their supporters into voting against their own interests for decades. A party that’s convinced millions of Americans that the best way to make their lives better is by giving rich people more money. A party that managed to convince millions of Americans that the president who presided over the longest streak of private-sector job growth this country has ever seen was an “economic failure.” The Republican Party really is nothing more than one “long-con.” When you get right down to it, Trump went all-in and bet big on two things that helped him become a superstar among many Republicans: 1. The ignorance and stupidity of conservatives. 2. Racism and bigotry. There were rumors that before he launched his campaign, Trump had people study the comments sections of right-wing blogs to find out what conservative voters were thinking. He then used these comments as a foundation for his entire campaign. Donald Trump bet his entire campaign on his belief that he could say or do anything and most conservative voters would be naive enough to believe him and trust him. And he was right. Without a doubt, Trump is the most dishonest person I’ve ever seen run for public office. As I’ve said numerous times before, while all politicians distort the truth, I’ve never seen one who literally just makes things up as he goes. This is a man who I’ve seen deny that he’s said or done something that he’s on video saying or doing. Yet, no matter how many times he was caught blatantly lying or contradicting himself, his supporters never waver in their support of him. Even now as he’s asked Congress to fund his border wall, his supporters are perfectly fine with that because they’re gullible enough to believe his promise that, eventually, he’ll make Mexico pay for it. It really does take a special kind of stupid to believe this pathological liar."
